Create a DNS server with Win2000

With the DNS function provided by Windows 2000 Server, the domain name service system can be easily established in the LAN. The DNS service described in this article is integrated with AC (Active Directory); since all computers on the network require a static IP address, there is no need to consider DHCP configuration. The operating environment is: Windows 2000 Server on the server side and Windows XP/2000 on the client side. Later, whenever a new computer is added to the LAN, the DNS server can automatically register the client's information. At the same time, the client can log in to the domain in the name of the domain user to realize information sharing in the LAN and facilitate network management of the system administrator.

Server-side configuration

1. First run the Active Drectory installation wizard in the "Configuration Server" of the "Administrative Tools". When there is a need to integrate DNS, there are two cases: if the server does not have DNS configuration in advance, the Active Directory installation wizard will automatically configure DNS; if DNS is installed and configured, the dynamic update configuration needs to be added, otherwise the installer will report an error. .

Then enter the username and password as prompted. The domain name is assumed to be Test.com, and the others use the default options. Note: The NetBIOS domain name is Test.

After the AC is installed, the DNS server becomes a domain controller and cannot change its name and domain name. The domain controller stores directory and DNS data and manages user domain interactions, including user login procedures, authentication and DNS, and directory searches. A domain can have one or more domain controllers, and only one domain controller is defined here.

2. In the DNS management menu, create a new server area and host, add a reverse search area to ensure that the server is in a security update state. Then, the pointer to the domain name server must be added in the reverse search area, otherwise the Default Server cannot be found with the Nslookup test.

3. Enable the forwarder in the "DNS Server Configuration" property, add the upper-level Internet domain name server address, so that the DNS server in the local area can use the Internet when there is no resource record and the host cannot be resolved. The DNS service is parsed. In this way, the interconnection between the DNS and the Inernet in the local area network is better realized.

Client Configuration

1. Add the DNS server address in the DNS configuration of the client TCP/IP. Now, using IE to access the domain name resources in the DNS server.

2. In the "My Computer" property page on the desktop, add the client computer name and domain in the network ID, and the DNS server will automatically register the client's DNS record. Of course, you need to know the DNS server management password during the addition process. Note: When adding a domain name, it is best to add it with the NetBIOS Test domain name.

By the integrated DNS server of the AC, all resource records will become objects in the Active Directory database, which will run slower, but can ensure secure access and update of DNS resource records. When you are not satisfied with your AC integrated DNS configuration, or want to change the role of the DNS server, just run the Dcpromo command in the command line state, Windows 2000 Server will automatically pop up an installation wizard window, automatically complete the AC uninstall .

DHCP can also be used. This service can integrate with DNS service and Active Directory. When DHCP assigns IP address to computer, the information in DNS and Active Directory can be dynamically updated at the same time.
