Anti-hard drive "injury" tips

After using broadband, the happiest ones are those who like to download, but there is also a problem with the guilty ones. That is to see other "common" users are willing to download, the hard disk is "injured", the reason is very Simple, a lot of good stuff on the Internet, all of them are hundreds of megabytes or even G, it takes several hours to download, long-term torture does not ruin the hard drive! How to maximize the protection of the hard disk, I believe the following "secrets" can help you a lot ...

1. Increase the disk cache. Run "Windows Optimizer" and select "System Performance Optimization→Disk Cache Optimization". In the right panel, combine your own memory capacity, adjust the disk cache according to the recommended value of the software, and finally click the "Optimize" button.

2. Adjust the save frequency of FlashGet. FlashGet is one of the most commonly used download software for domestic users. It provides a common hard disk protection mechanism - download data to the buffer first, and then write to disk when it reaches a certain amount. This mechanism can effectively prevent frequent disk operations. In the main interface of FlashGet, execute the main menu "Tools → Options", in the "Options" window, switch to the "General" page, find the "When data is written to disk every time received" option (Figure 1), will When the value is set to a maximum of 1000, the downloaded file will be saved in units of 1000 KB.

3. BT player of the Gospel. BT is one of the most popular download tools, but unfortunately, many BT download tools directly write data to the hard disk. For a long time, the damage to the hard disk is conceivable. In fact, in many BT download tools, you can consider using the "Bit Wizard", which provides download management functions like FlashGet, and features many features such as intelligent and controllable caching.

"Bit Wizard", when you click on a BT download link, pop up the "Add New Task" dialog (Figure 2), see the "Maximum Cache Block" option? The size of each block is 256KB, the initial default value is 60. For 256MB mainstream memory capacity, this value can generally meet the requirements. If you have more than 384MB of memory capacity, it is recommended to increase the value.

The above mentioned points are essentially the purpose of “reducing the burden” by increasing the read-write buffer and reducing the number of reads and writes on the hard disk. You can make a difference.
