GPT to MBR partition format graphic tutorial

Before the conversion, let us first understand what is GPT? Why do you want to convert?

GPT: GUID Partition Table (GUID partition table disk partition style supports up to 18 EB (exabytes) and up to 128 partitions per disk) We can go to <Disk Management" Disk model, look at the pop-up menu, if there is "converted to GPT disk" words, indicating that your hard disk partition is MBR mode; if there is "converted to MBR disk" words, indicating that your hard disk partition is GPT mode . However: If you are installing Win7 (either 32-bit or 64-bit), your hard disk partition must be in MBR mode. If you are installing 32-bit Win8, your hard disk partition is still in MBR mode. Only if you are installing 64-bit Win8, your hard disk partition may be in GPT mode.

1. Which mode partition has no effect on system operation. 2. If the motherboard supports UEFI, then you can use GPT mode to create a partition to install a 64-bit operating system on a disk larger than 2T. If the MBR mode is used, the part larger than 2T is unrecognizable and can only be wasted. 3. If the motherboard is a traditional BIOS and does not support UEFI, then you can only install 64-bit or 32-bit systems in MBR mode on disks no larger than 2T. If a disk larger than 2T is used, the part larger than 2T is unrecognizable and can only be wasted. Moreover, regardless of whether the disk is larger than 2T, if you are running in GPT mode, you cannot install any operating system. 4. WinXP cannot recognize GPT disks and cannot read and write data on GPT disks, but it is not affected when sharing remotely.

Randomly pre-installed Win8 computer, the disk is in GPT format, if you need to install an earlier version of Win7 and other systems, you need to convert to MBR format, use the Diskpart command to complete the conversion. Steps: Note: Converting the disk format requires clearing all partitions and data on the disk. Before operation, save all important data on the disk. 1. Use Win7 CD or U disk to boot, enter the system installation interface. 2. Press Shift + F10 to open a command prompt. 3. Enter “Diskpart” (do not enter the quotes, the same below), and press Enter to enter the operation interface 4. Enter: “list disk”, view the disk information. Pay attention to the disk capacity to choose. In the figure, Disk 0 of 465G is a hard disk, and Disk 1 of 3852M is a USB disk for Win7 installation. 5. Enter: “select disk 0”, select disk 0 as the currently operating disk 6. Enter: ”Clean”, clear the current disk partition. 7. Enter: "convert mbr”, convert to MBR partition. 8. After the operation is completed, close the command prompt window and continue to install the Win7 system in the normal way. Extended knowledge: Other uses of the convert command: convert basic - Converts a disk from dynamic to basic. Convert dynamic - Converts a disk from basic to dynamic. Convert gpt - Converts a disk from MBR to GPT. Convert mbr - Converts a disk from GPT to MBR.
