It is now easier to print in Windows. When you connect your printer to your computer or add a new one to your home network, you can start printing right away. For most people, this is all that it contains. Printing is simpler because Windows supports most printers and does not require downloads or CDs. More printer support is available online through Windows Update. Windows Update will help if you don't have all the printing features you need.
To learn more and get the latest software from the printer, visiting the manufacturer's website is also a good choice. Before installing a new printer, check the instructions that came with the printer.
Steps to set up the printer
In Windows 8 and Windows RT, simply connect the printer to your computer or network. Plug the printer's USB cable into an available USB port on your computer. If the printer is a network printer or wireless printer that already exists on your home network, you do not need to perform other operations. Of course you should make sure the printer is plugged into the outlet and turned on.

Steps to see if the printer is installed and running
1. Swipe in from the right edge of the screen and click "Search”. (If using the mouse, point to the top right corner of the screen, then move the pointer down, then click “search”.)

If the printer is already installed, it should appear in the list on the right. If the printer is not on this list, click “Add Device" at the top of the device list. Select your printer from this list to install it.
Some older network printers may require additional information to complete setup and will not appear in this list when you select “Add Device". If you encounter problems, double-click the printer to make sure it is turned on and all cables are securely plugged in. Check the device's manufacturer's instructions to see if you can choose to enable Web services, which will be installed automatically when the printer is turned on. If the printer does not have this option, check the instructions to find the printer's IP address. You need this address for advanced printer setup.
