Avoid conflicts Win 8 has its own anti-virus software off by default

According to antivirus software maker McAfee, the anti-virus software built into Microsoft Windows 8 will only be enabled if there is no other anti-virus software on the PC.
Microsoft officially released the new Windows Defender in September last year and pre-installed it in the Windows 8 Developer Preview and Consumer Preview. Windows Defender, pre-installed in Windows 8, integrates the functionality of the previous Windows Defender feature with Microsoft's free anti-virus software MSE.
Windows 8 Release Preview is released, and Windows Defender is also pre-installed in this version. In the public release of the three versions of Windows 8 preview, Windows Defender is turned on by default as a system protection software.
However, in the official version, the situation will be very different. According to Gary Davis, head of McAfee's consumer products marketing department, in the Windows 8 PC released in the second half of this year, Microsoft gave way to third-party vendors and computer manufacturers (OEMs).
OEMs usually pre-install trial versions of anti-virus software in their branded machines, and users can choose to pay to upgrade to the official version, and OEMs can profit from it. Davis said that Windows 8 will give up the role of anti-virus software. If the system detects anti-virus software, Windows Defender will not be activated.

Davis said in an interview: "Look at Microsoft's move in Windows 8, you can see that they are doing their best to help anti-virus software vendors retain customers." . & rdquo; But this is not to please these security vendors, "We believe that they are likely to do so because of pressure from OEMs. A large part of the profits of OEMs comes from the cooperation of anti-virus software vendors. ”
Davis added that Windows 8 will automatically activate Windows Defender only if there is no anti-virus software on the PC.
