Windows 8.1 is a free update for Windows 8, which is believed to be known to most Win8 users, and most of them have been updated to Win8.1. However, some users do not want to update for some reason, but Windows 8 will remind you to download the Windows 8.1 update for free. What's tangled is that this update notification will be displayed directly at the top of the screen, there is no close button, you want to cancel the "go to store" button on the click notification and then exit.

Since users don't want to update to Windows 8.1 for the time being, and naturally don't want to receive update notifications all the time, is there any way to stop showing update notifications? The answer is of course: yes.

There are two ways to turn off this update notification. One is to change the Group Policy settings, and the other is to modify the registry. In comparison, the former is simpler and safer.

Group Policy:

1. Press [Win + R] to open the Run dialog box and enter “gpedit.msc” Enter to open the Group Policy Editor;

2, expand & ldquo; computer configuration & rdquo; & mdash; & mdash; & ldquo; management template & rdquo; & mdash; & mdash; & ldquo; Windows components & rdquo;, find “ application store & rdquo; this one (in the lower position) ;

Find the app store

3. Double-click on the right window to "stop providing updates to the latest version of Windows" in the window that opens. Click “enabled” and then confirm exit.

Turn off update push notifications

After this change, you will no longer receive Windows 8.1 update notifications, when you think you can update to Windows 8.1, then Change this setting back to “not configured”

Registry Method:

1. Press [Win + R] to open the Run dialog box and enter “regedit” Enter to open the Registry Editor;

2 Expand to: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\\SOFTWARE\\Policies\\Microsoft\\WindowsStore; if you don't have one, create one manually.

3. Create a new DWORD value in the right window of the WindowsStore item, name it: DisableOSUpgrade, and set its value to 1.

Modifying Registry Values

4. Exit the Registry Editor, log out or restart the system for the changes to take effect. When you need to accept the update notification again, change the DWORD value to 0 or delete the entire WindowsStore item.

As long as you follow any of the above methods, you can turn off the Windows 8.1 free update notification until you think the time to update to Windows 8.1 is mature.
