The push time of Windows 8.1 Volkswagen Preview is 26th of this month. The official version of Windows 8.1 is unknown. The upgrade package is provided free of charge by Microsoft.
On the 26th of this month, all Windows 8 and Windows RT users will receive the Windows 8.1 preview update via the Windows Store, and users are free to choose whether to install. When the official version of Windows 8.1 is released, users will also receive an update push from the Windows Store.
x86 Windows 8 users who choose to update to Windows 8.1 Preview, and then upgrade Windows 8.1 official version, all applications (start screen and traditional desktop application) will be reinstalled, but user data and account information will be retained; When a Windows RT user is upgraded from the preview to the official version, only the tile application in the start screen needs to be reloaded. If the consumer chooses to upgrade directly from Windows 8 to the official 8.1 version, there is no need to reinstall the app.
Microsoft revealed that Windows 8.1 will take up less system storage space because the development team removed some old components, temporary files and improved NTFS compression technology. Installing Windows 8.1 Preview requires approximately 4GB of space.
