Microsoft officially stopped mainstream support for Win7 today

Beijing time on January 13th news, according to the plan, Microsoft will officially end the "mainstream support" for Windows 7 SP1 on January 13, 2015, and this also marks the "extended support" stage At the beginning, this phase will end on January 14, 2020.

In October 2013, Microsoft terminated the sale of a stand-alone Windows 7 system installation package and asked manufacturers to stop producing Windows 7 consumer PCs in October 2014. Today, Microsoft will stop the mainstream support for Windows 7 SP1 on January 13, 2015, which is today.

In fact, the end of the "mainstream support" will not have a real impact on consumers, because Microsoft will still launch patches for Windows 7 until January 14, 2020. However, Microsoft will no longer add any new features to Windows 7, such as the upcoming DirectX12.

However, as enterprise users rely on customized features, they will have to pay for patches that improve the security and stability of the Winows 7 operating system.

As we all know, Windows 8 is another big nightmare for Microsoft after Vista. In Windows 8, Microsoft abandoned the desktop user interface that users have been accustomed to for 20 years, and replaced it with a touch-screen-friendly, tile-based start screen. Undoubtedly, this change in Windows 8 is very dramatic, it eventually scared away a lot of consumers and business users, and got a lot of media "bad reviews".

Today, many consumers and business users are still stuck on Windows 7 or even Windows XP and are reluctant to perform upgrades. However, the upcoming Windows 10 will change this. Currently, Microsoft has released a technical preview of Windows 10, and has won praise from users and the media. According to estimates, Microsoft will release the Windows 10 Consumer Preview on January 21 and release more details about the desktop and mobile versions of Windows 10.
