Win10 9879 version cannot install KB3020114 update solution

December 2 Microsoft released an update (KB3020114) to the 9879 version of the Windows 10 Technology Preview user to fix a frequent crash of Explorer.exe. However, according to testers, about 12% of users of this version cannot install or apply the update. Microsoft said it is aware of the problem and provided a description of the problem and a solution.

The Windows 10 Technology Preview 9879 can easily cause Explorer.exe to crash for the following reasons:

A new system compression code was introduced to allow installation in the solid state The hard disk system takes full advantage of the advantages of SSD and reduces the disk capacity occupied by the system. However, in some cases, the detection logic of the low-capacity space is reversed, and the system automatically performs the compression operation in the background.

On the PC system, an additional file system tracking error has occurred, causing the system installer to think that the temporary file was not properly extracted, which further prevented the installer from crashing.

For a solution that does not properly install the KB3020114 update:

Run as administrator and open CMD.exe, type: compact /u /exe /s:%windir%\\winsxs\\filemaps
