How to install January Windows 10 Technology Preview

Computer Store News: For a few days, Microsoft repeatedly talked about what new content Windows 10 will bring to us. Now, Microsoft released a new version of Windows 10 slightly ahead of schedule. Technology preview. Now you can catch your breath and get ready to install the new Windows 10 Technology Preview. You might consider trying to install this new system yourself, for which we have a quick installation guide.

Before You Begin

The so-called Technology Preview means that this is a beta version of the operating system that Microsoft uses to test the system and get feedback. The new preview will expire on October 1, 2015. Users should be able to update directly from the technical preview to the final operating system in mid-to-late 2015.

There are a few things you need to know before you are ready to install a new system. First of all, this is just a preview version, it will definitely carry a lot of problems and defects, and Microsoft will definitely launch a lot of updates next. For this reason, if you install this Windows 10 on your main computer, it may not be a good idea.

Windows 7 SP1, Windows 8.0 and 8.1 users can download and install the new Windows 10 Technology Preview. However, RT devices such as Surface RT and Surface 2 are currently not installed.

During the installation, you can choose to clean up the files in your current operating system and start installing Windows 10 Technology Preview, or just update the operating system and keep all the files and settings. Most of us chose the latter installation method, and everything proved to be as smooth as ever.

The early preview version did not provide performance optimization for touchscreen devices, but now we can see many features that are suitable for touchscreen movement, such as Continuum. But that doesn't mean you'll get a good operating system. Once again, this is a beta version of the software, there are a lot of problems, but not found. Microsoft needs your help to identify the problem and continually improve the operating system.

Finally, before considering installation, you should read the Microsoft FAQ page. It is highly recommended that you create a recovery driver in case you want to restore your previous operating system. In most cases, including installing the Technology Preview on Surface Pro 3, the Windows 10 image will overwrite the recovery partition, making it impossible to revert to your previous system.

Do you make a decision?

So, you seem to have decided to take risks. In this case, what you need to do is:

1. First, you need to register the Windows Insider Program. The whole process is fast and easy. Just follow the link to register your Microsoft account and accept the terms and conditions.

2. After the registration is successful, you will be prompted to download the disk image, also known as the ISO image file. The capacity is less than 4GB, so make sure you are ready to start the installation before downloading.

3, Next, you need to burn the ISO image file to the DVD, extract the file from the ISO image file or open the ISO image file through the virtual CD-ROM drive. To mount the ISO image file on Windows 8, just right click and select Mount. According to our experience, it is best to install ISO through C:\\, do not use USB devices.

4. Once you are ready, double-click setup.exe to install and wait for the installation process to complete.

5. The installation wizard will guide you through the steps required.

The actual installation process takes an average of about 20 minutes, depending on the speed of your computer. The operating system will install itself and will need to be restarted several times in the middle. At almost any time, a progress bar appears on the screen, usually indicated by a percentage, to let you know the installation process.

Windows 8.1 is smart. When the Technology Preview encounters a problem during the installation process, it will roll back the installation and maintain the current operating system. So you can also try to diagnose what caused the installation to fail.
