AMD cuts chip orders

  

On December 10, 2012, AMD recently announced that it will reduce the number of orders for chips due to the recent poor financial situation. It is reported that the company will cut 75% of Globalfoundries' orders in the fourth quarter of 2012.

Bloomberg reported that although AMD had previously planned to pay Globalfoundries $500 million to buy chips, they ended up paying only $115 million. Because unilaterally abolished the number of orders, AMD must pay up to $320 million in termination fees to Globalfoundries before the end of 2013. This is not the first AMD company's first cost-saving plan this year. As early as October this year, they announced that they would lay off 15% of their workforce by the end of 2012 to meet financial difficulties. In the first few quarters, AMD has been losing money, but they said they can turn a profit in the first half of 2013.

AMD's NPD Group has just released a research analysis report, saying that sales of PCs with Windows systems fell 21% in the first month after Windows 8 was released. . Although supply problems such as touch-screen notebooks and tablets have appeared, computer makers such as Dell, Toshiba and Sony have said that sales of Windows 8 PCs are in line with their expectations. However, most major Windows 8 computer equipment manufacturers are not using AMD chips.
