Today, Microsoft brought details of the Windows 8 upgrade promotion program.
As we reported before, Microsoft officially announced today that almost all users can upgrade to Windows 8. From the official release of Windows 8, if your PC is running Windows XP, Vista or Windows 7, then You can download the upgrade package and upgrade to Windows 8 Pro Professional. Microsoft sells upgrade packages for 131 markets worldwide for $39.99.
When you use Windows.com to purchase the Windows 8 Pro upgrade service, the Windows 8 Upgrade Assistant will help you simplify the upgrade process. It will check if your PC is ready to upgrade to Windows 8, and provide a detailed compatibility report to let users know about the issues that need to be addressed before and after the upgrade.
The Windows 8 Upgrade Assistant also reminds you which applications or devices may have compatibility issues and asks you which data to keep. The data that can be retained from different versions to Win8 is different, as follows:
— Users can upgrade from any consumer version of Windows 7 to Windows 8 Pro Professional, and retain existing Windows settings, Personal files and applications.
— If you are upgrading from Windows Vista, you can keep your Windows settings and personal files.
— If you are upgrading from Windows XP SP3, you can only keep personal files.
— No matter which system you upgrade from, you can choose not to retain any data.
When you purchase the upgrade service, the Windows 8 Upgrade Assistant will start downloading. It has a built-in download manager that you can pause or continue to download.
Once the download is complete, you can choose to upgrade now or later (create media or from the desktop).
