Windows 8 tablet does not support PC software

September 16th, Microsoft Windows Division Vice President Stephen · Stephen Sinofsky said at an annual meeting of Wall Street analysts and fund managers on Wednesday that Windows 8 tablets will not support previous Windows Software on the operating system.

Sinowski said that the compatibility between the software on the desktop version of Windows 8 and the Windows 8 tablet is not practical. Software developers need to optimize the program to make full use of the hardware.

The desktop version of Windows 8 will run on Intel and AMD's X86 architecture. Windows 8 tablets use ARM chips and will not support any X86 architecture software.

Sinowski said at the Microsoft 2011 Build Developer Conference on Tuesday that software on Windows 8 tablets and desktop versions of Windows 8 will be cross-version compatible.
