Windows 2000 Reading and Delivering Newsgroups

With the increase in online news servers, reading newsgroup articles and participating in news discussions has become an important part of the use of the Internet by a wide range of users. With Outlook Express newsgroup processing, users can not only read newsgroup articles, but also respond to other people's articles in writing, and even ask questions or respond to the entire newsgroup or one of them. However, to use Outlook Express to read content in a newsgroup, an Internet service provider must establish a connection to the news server for the user to set up an account on the news server. Once the account is set up, you can read and post newsgroup articles at any time in several newsgroups maintained by the news server.

Introduction to Newsgroups

Newsgroups are collections of personally posted messages to news servers and are an important form of news dissemination and news discussion on the web. On the Internet, users can find newsgroups of almost any topic. Although some newsgroups are monitored, users need certain permissions to access them, but most are not. Anyone can post an email to a newsgroup, and the newsgroup does not require membership or membership fees. For monitored newsgroups, their "owners" can also check posted messages, ask questions, or delete inappropriate messages.

Before reading a newsgroup article, an Internet service provider must provide users with a link to one or more news servers to use newsgroups in Outlook Express. In Outlook Express, after the user has set up an account for the server to connect to, he or she can read and post the message in the newsgroup on the news server.

After a period of use, if a user finds some of their favorite newsgroups, they can subscribe to it so that it appears in the Outlook Express folder list. By booking, users can easily access their favorite newsgroups without having to flip through the lengthy newsgroup list on the server each time they want to access a favorite newsgroup. Newsgroups contain thousands of messages, which makes sorting of messages time-consuming, and Outlook Express has a variety of features to help you quickly find the newsgroup information you need.

Scheduled Newsgroups

There are thousands of news servers on the Internet, and each news server has many newsgroups, so it’s impossible for users to view each newsgroup. You can only choose to view it according to your needs. Since each newsgroup has a more fixed discussion topic, the user can find the newsgroup of interest by searching the entire news server and order it to read the news and participate in the discussion of the newsgroup in the future.

To order a newsgroup, in the Outlook Express window, select "Tools" | The "Newsgroup" command opens the "Newsgroup Reservations" dialog box, as shown in Figure 13-3. Click the newsgroup account in the "Accounts" list box, and then enter your desired news topic in the "Show newsgroups with the following content" text box. After you press Enter, the account group containing the entered news topic content will be Will be found and listed in the list box below. If you want to search for newsgroup descriptions while searching for newsgroups, enable the "Search for descriptions at the same time" checkbox. After the newsgroup you want to book is found, select it from the list box and click the "Schedule" button to make the newsgroup reservation. If the content of a newsgroup changes over time, the user can cancel the reservation. Click the "Scheduled" tab, select a newsgroup with a very large content change, and click the "Cancel Reservation" button to cancel the reservation for the newsgroup. Finally click the "OK" button to close the dialog.
