Teach you to set up a Windows XP shared folder that requires a password

        Colleagues from other departments of the unit asked me a question: Some information in his computer (Windows XP Profession) wants to be given to a user in another department, and only allows this user to share these resources, but after sharing the directory, the unit All the computers on the LAN can see this information, and he immediately canceled the sharing. Is there any way to make Windows XP and Windows 9x/Me add passwords to shared folders so that only those who are authorized to know the password can share these resources?

I went to see his computer and found that Windows XP network sharing has changed. Simple is really simple, but not safe. I can only set the shared folder to read-only or "Allow network users to modify me." The file, so that any computer-set shared resources, all computers on the same network as the computer can share the shared resources of this computer through "My Network Places" without any authorization. After some exploration, I found that the default share of Windows XP installation is "simple sharing", resulting in "open" and unsafe file sharing. The way to change this "simple sharing" is:

First cancel the default "simple sharing". Open "My Computer", click "Tools → Folder Options", select the "View" tab in the dialog box that opens, and clear the check box before "Use Simple Sharing (Recommended)".

Then create a shared user. Click "Start → Settings → Control Panel" to open the "User Account" and create a user with a password. Assuming the user name is user00, the machine that needs to share resources must share resources with the user.

Next, set the directory to be shared (assuming the shared directory is the directory test1 on the NTFS partition), and set only the user user00 to share the resources in the directory: right-click the directory to be shared. Test1", click "Share and Security", select "Share → Share this folder", click "Permissions", click the "Delete" button to delete the permissions that any user (everyone) in the original directory can share, and then Click the "Add" button, click "Advanced → Find Now", select user user00, click "OK" to add user user00 to add, and select the user user's share permissions (Figure 1).

After the computer in the LAN wants to view the contents of the shared folder, you can only view or modify the contents of the shared folder by entering the correct username and password. >
