At first, dialing and surfing on Windows 98 were normal, but when I installed the FTTB dialer under Windows XP, I encountered a problem.

Fault Cause

In Windows XP, follow the steps in Windows 98, enter the user name and password after installing the FTTB dedicated dialer, and the system asks to restart. After restarting the system, double-click the dialer. The strange thing is that it requires the author to establish a new connection again. In the past, under Windows 98, it was possible to dial up directly. Build a connection again, still.

Failure Analysis

Since the system has been prompted to verify that some files cannot pass Microsoft's verification when installing the FTTB dialer, ask if the author continues. At that time, the author chose "Yes". Therefore, I suspect that the dialer provided by Telecom does not support Windows XP. I downloaded the latest version of the dialer, and the fault persists. Will it be a problem with the NIC installation or setup? In the device manager, the author did not see problems such as exclamation points or conflicts, and the network card was correctly identified. Then open the network neighborhood, the author found that in addition to the original "local connection" in the network neighborhood, there are two more "dial-up connections" marked with red cross. These two connections were previously established by the author, and the wrong connection shows the message "Dial-up connection disabled due to the network cable being unplugged or not properly connected." But the author did not plug in the network cable before installing Windows XP, how can this prompt appear?

Troubleshooting

The author finally turned to China Telecom, the problem was solved. In Windows XP, you don't need to install any FTTB dedicated dialing program. You can use the dial-up connection that comes with Windows XP. If you install the FTTB dialer, you will encounter problems that I have encountered. The specific operation method is as follows: Click “Start → Programs → Accessories → Communication → New Connection Wizard” to enter the New Connection Wizard interface, select “Connect to the Internet → Manually set up my connection → Connect with a broadband connection requiring a username and password” Enter any ISP name, such as FTTB, and then click “Next” to enter the username and password. After completing, double-click the FTTB connection icon in Network Neighborhood to access the Internet. Through this method, we can also be connected to the network as a "wired communication", so that you do not need to dial every time you go online.
