X Window is a visual and graphical program used to manage the system in Linux. It is similar to the visual management interface of Windows with MS. But it's just similar, and it's still very different. X Window is just a program under Linux, not part of the kernel; and MS's Windows visual management interface is part of the NT kernel. Linux below you can end the X window program, and the system will run as usual; and if you want to end the visual management interface under Windows, then you can only shut down, so that the entire windows system is quit.

This way the X window can be closed, and it will be started when needed.

Like us usually install a variety of Linux-based distributions, such as Reg hat, debian, ubuntu, Red flag. Restart, you directly enter the graphical X window login interface or directly into the management interface, generally we think that into this management interface, we entered the operating system
, in fact, I have seen them early Before the X window login interface, the system has been started (because only the system is started, the x window program can be loaded, the program can not be started before the system), if you do not believe, now press ctrl, alt, F (1, 2 … 6) you can open each terminal.

In fact, we sometimes want to start the x window, we just want to manage the system in the text terminal, or like me, the machine configuration is very low, the cpu is 1200M, then in X Under the window operation, it seems a bit card, then turn off the terminal. So how to turn off the terminal, in fact, it is very simple, there is an option in the login interface (this is for the red flag login interface, other versions do not know if there are no secondary options), called login on console, so directly in the terminal way Log in, so we have 7 terminals. If you are already logged in to the x window, you can find the logout in the menu to unregister the x window.

startx can start x window, you can run this command on any terminal to start x window.
