The server could not find the existing file

Problem: The operating system of the LAN server is Windows Server 2003. When browsing the files in the Web server built with IIS 6.0 on the server, I receive the prompt message HTTP Error 404 - File or directory not found. This message indicates that the target file was not found, but the file to be viewed is actually a real file, but it is not a common file format. How can I solve this problem?

This problem occurs because earlier versions of IIS included a wildcard-style MIME mapping, which allowed IIS to process any file without regard to the extension. IIS 6.0 has higher security requirements. By default, MIME mapping is not included in the wildcard mode, so any type of file other than the MIME mapping definition cannot be processed. The solution is: 1. Right-click the "(ServerName) Local Computer" option in the "Internet Information Services (IIS) Manager" window and execute the "Properties" shortcut command. Click the “MIME Type” button after opening the Server Properties dialog box, and click the “New” button in the Opened MIME Types dialog box. 2. Then enter the suffix name of the file that failed to open in the "Extensions" box of the "MIME Type" dialog box that opens, and enter application/octet in the text box to the right of "MIME Type". After the -stream command, click the “OK" button to apply the new settings. Restart IIS 6.0 to handle the type of file you just added, as shown.
Add MIME type
