The company used Wsus 2.0 before. The system was automatically updated to version 3.0 after Wsus3.0 came out. Adjusting the server a few days ago, you need to reinstall the Wsus server to another server, just to try the Wsus3.0 service thoroughly.
Download
First download the installation file of Wsus 3.0, here is the download address of Simplified Chinese version, the speed is good,
http://download.microsoft. Com/download/1/a/7/1a745ad1-0b08-4703-b876-4575411af74b/WSUS3Setupx86.exe
When the download is complete, the name of the installation file is Wsus3Setupx86.exe, and the server of Wsus 3.0 must be installed on Windows. The operating system of the 2003 SP1 version or higher must have IIS 6.0, Windows Installer 3.1, Microsoft .Net Framework 2.0, and BITS 5.1 installed. If your operating system is Windows 2003 or higher and you have installed the above components, you can start the Wsus 3.0 installation process.

2. After the decompression is completed, a welcome dialog will pop up, click "Next" "
3. Entering the installation mode selection dialog, an important new feature of Wsus 3.0 is to support the separate installation of the server program and the management console. Here you can choose the first item to install both the server program and the management console. Of course, you can also select the second item to install only the server, and then install the management console on any machine in the LAN. I choose the first item here and "the next step."
4. There is a dialog box that the installer is preparing to install, but the waiting time is very short. If you still don't want to install Wsus 3.0 at this time, you can click "Cancel".

6 Then there is a prompt dialog box "Using the components needed to manage the UI", prompting that the "Mircrosoft Report viewer 2005 Redistributable" component is not installed on my computer, but that's okay, you can install this component separately after installing Wsus 3.0. . Click "Next"!
7. "Select Update Source" dialog box, "Local Storage Update" is to decide to download the update package to the local server's hard disk for the client to download and install, or let the client directly Go to Microsoft's server download. Of course, choose "local storage update" here, here you can say the benefits of a local storage, if there are other machines in your LAN can not access the Internet, then you must choose this one, but choose this item must require the storage disk as NTFS format, and there is enough space. Click "Browse" to select the storage path and "Next".
8. Enter the "database options", specify the location of the Wsus 3.0 data storage, if you have other SQL 2005 database server installed in your LAN, you can choose the third or first item, otherwise select the first item, here I chose the first item, but did not change the installation location of the database program to the D drive, and the next step.
9. Enter the "Site Selection" dialog box. If you have other websites installed on your server, you must select the second item, otherwise there will be conflicts, but now there are no other websites on my server. Select the default first item. And "the next step." If you choose the second item, you will re-establish an IIS site on the server and the port is 8530. The other settings are the same.
10. Enter the "Prepare to install Wsus 3.0" dialog box, here will show the settings of the above steps, you can view it, if there is no problem, click "Next" to start the installation.
11. Enter the "Installing" dialog box. Wait patiently for a while, of course you can download the "Mircrosoft Report viewer 2005 Redistributable" mentioned above to facilitate the next installation.
12. After waiting for about 7-8 minutes, the installation is complete, click "Finish".
Configuration
1. After the installation is completed, it will automatically enter the “Wsus 3.0 Configuration Wizard”. There is no settable item here, just click Next.
2. Enter the "Join the Mircrosoft Update Improvement Plan" dialog box. Here I have not selected "Yes, I hope to join the Mircosoft Update Improvement Plan". I am worried that the company will use the D version of Windows XP. This will collect so much information for Microsoft. Will there be a point that Microsoft will give the company a lawyer's letter. "Next".

9. Enter the "Set Synchronization Plan" dialog box, select automatic synchronization and set the synchronization period and time. And click "Next".
10. Enter the "Complete" dialog box, complete the initial configuration wizard of the server, do not click "Start initial synchronization" here, because it takes more time. Click Finish.
Management
1. After completing the configuration wizard, the first time you enter the management console, a dialog box for adding a snap-in will appear.
2. After waiting for the addition, you will enter the main interface of the management console.
3. Look at this interface and Wsus 2.0 has been greatly improved, the function is really strong, we can use this interface to view the update type, all computers, downstream servers, synchronization, and options, we First look at the "options" above. After we have finished the configuration wizard, most of the options here do not need to be configured. The options that can be set are as shown below.
4. Take a look at the "Auto Approval" option. Updates downloaded synchronously from upstream WSUS require approval to allow deployment to the client installation. Automatic approval does not require us to review each update, and then approve the updates one by one. There is already a “default automatic approval rule” in the “Approval Rules” tab, and the rule attribute bar shows under what conditions the automatic approval will be performed. We can click the underlined option to edit, and then "run the rule after editing" will prompt whether to save, after saving, it will be automatically approved according to this default rule. Of course, you can also delete or create a new rule, "Advanced" tab, you can default to no need to set
5. In Wsus 3.0, you can also clean up the update files on the server through the "Server Cleanup Wizard", this feature is in Wsus There is no such thing in 2.0.
6. With the same step, click the synchronization on the tree menu on the left. The synchronization interface appears as follows. The middle of the middle shows the historical synchronization record. The following shows the synchronization details. Click "Sync Now" on the right side of the action bar to download the update immediately with the upstream update server.
7. View the report, click "Report" in the tool menu bar on the left, it will display various update reports and computer reports that we can view, but to view the report, you need to install "Mircrosoft Report viewer 2005 Redistributable" Component. In the previous installation process, you have to install the "Mircrosoft Report viewer 2005 Redistributable" component, just download the "Mircrosoft Report viewer 2005 Redistributable" installation. (Download address: http://download.microsoft.com/download/e/5/4/e540ca97-eded-437e-a61a-335332a33381/ReportViewer.exe) The installation of ReportViewerr is very simple.
8. After installing ReportViewer, click on the report you need to view to display the report item.
Small
The function of Wsus 3.0 is much stronger than 2.0. It also simplifies many operations, and I believe you can use it to make an internal update system.
