How to copy a disk or clone a disk to another disk

A copy disk can be used to copy data from an old disk to a new disk, replacing the old disk. For example, if your old disk size is not enough, or there are physical bad sectors on the old disk, you can use the “copy disk function” to use the old disk as the source disk and the new disk as the target disk, and then put the source disk. All partitions (including the system partition, ie, the C drive) are quickly copied to the target disk to avoid installing the operating system and applications from scratch. The Partition Assistant provides two ways to copy or clone a disk, as follows: Fast Copy Disk: This method copies only the used sectors on the source disk to other disks, and supports adjusting the size of the partition on the target disk during replication. In this way, you can even copy large disks to small disks. Sector-to-sector copy disk: This method copies all sectors of the source disk to the target disk regardless of whether the sector is used. In this way, when selecting the target disk, the target disk must have a capacity greater than or equal to the source disk. . The use of the partition assistant's copy hard disk function requires attention: all data on the target disk will be overwritten by the data on the source disk. The dynamic disk, GPT disk, and offline disk cannot be used as the target disk on the disk. Deleted or lost files can only be copied to the target disk copy disk by the "sector to sector copy" method. This example demonstrates how to copy a 36GB disk 1 to a 100GB disk 2. There are three partitions on disk 1, which are E disk, C disk and F disk. When copying disk 1 to disk 2, disk 2 also has three partitions and the data in the three partitions is exactly equal to the data in the three partitions on disk 1. Please see the following steps: 1. Download the free partition assistant, install and run. On the main interface of the opened partition assistant, you can see that there are two disks in the system, and there is a 100GB unallocated space on disk 2. As shown in Figure 1: Figure 1 2. Select Disk 1, and then click the “Copy Disk” option under Disk Operation; or right-click Disk 1, and select the “Copy Disk” option in the pop-up menu, as shown in Figure 2 below: Figure 2 3, then in the pop-up window you can see a sentence: "This wizard helps you copy a disk to another disk, the current disk 1 is selected as a source disk", there are two ways to copy Your choice, we choose here “ fast copy disk & rdquo;, and click the "Next" button, as shown in Figure 3: Figure 3 4, in this page, the program requires you to select the target disk to copy the source disk 1 To the target disk, here we select 100GB of disk 2 as the target disk. See Figure 4 below: Figure 4 5, then enter the "Edit partition on disk" page, there are three copy options for you to choose from, select different options, the layout of the target disk on the option will also change . One is: keep the partition size unchanged when copying (Figure 5), the other is: make the partition fit the size of the entire disk (Figure 6), and the third is: adjust the partition on this disk (Figure 7). Please see the three screenshots here. Figure 5: Keeping the partition size unchanged during replication Figure 6: Adapting the partition to the size of the entire disk Figure 7: Adjusting the partition on this disk 6. In the above image we select the second option to have all partitions on the source disk Automatically adapts to the size of the entire disk. Since the target disk is larger than the source disk, the auto-adaptation option will automatically expand all partitions on the source disk. Please click the “Next” button, and then click the “Complete” button to return to the partition assistant main interface, as shown in Figure 8. In Figure 8 above, it can be seen that the E, C, and F disks on the disk 1 have been copied to the disk 2 and become G, H, and I disks, respectively. At the same time, G, H, and I are respectively expanded to automatically adapt to the size of the disk 2. In addition, an operation item of "Copy Disk 1 to Disk 2" is added to the list of waiting execution operations on the left side of the main interface. Finally, don't forget to click the "Submit" button on the toolbar to perform a true disk copy operation. Since disk and hard disk are a concept, copying and cloning is also a concept. Copy disk operations using the partitioning assistant can also be called disk cloning or hard disk cloning. In addition to copying the entire disk, the partitioning assistant can also copy a single partition on the disk, which is called a replication partition. The ability to copy partitions will give partitioning assistants more flexibility in disk partition management.
