Data Backup Solution Norton Trial Report

The name of Symantec (National Symantec) naturally does not need me to say more here, Norton Internet Security, Norton AntiVirus, Norton Ghost and other software are familiar to us. However, the Norton Save and Restore we are introducing today is a personal data backup solution that combines both Norton Ghost and Norton GoBack. It combines ease of use and flexibility to provide a new option for personal data backup.
First, the software installation and update
Like Norton Ghost 2006, Norton Save and Restore will prompt if you need to verify the driver during the installation process. The purpose of the verification is to check whether there is a computer network in Norton Recovery Disk. Drivers available for devices and storage devices to ensure that recovery that may be needed in the future will configure the device using the computer.
When the verification is completed, we will see the example shown in (Figure 1), telling that the STEALTH SCSI Controller failed to detect it. This is the driver installed when installing Daemon Tools. It doesn't matter, click The "Close" button continues to be installed, and the system needs to be restarted to take effect after the installation is completed.

Figure 1
After rebooting the system, Norton Save and Restore will run automatically, we can see a very familiar wizard window (see Figure 2), click the "Next" button will Ask for the product key, if you haven't got it, you can only try it for 15 days, then run LiveUpdate to automatically search for product updates (see Figure 3).

Second, backup and recovery are suitable for both

Enter the main interface shown in Figure 4 After that, you can see that this window is not much different from Norton Ghost 2006. However, it should be noted that the Microsoft .NET Framework version 1.1 or higher must be installed on the system, otherwise it will not be able to continue.

(1) Flexible backup mode
Of course we choose “Backup Now”, after a quick scan, the dialog box shown in Figure 5 will pop up. Here you can reset the storage location. After seeing the dialog shown in (Figure 6), we can choose two different backup modes:

Figure 5

Figure 6
1 .Overall backup
This method is used to achieve the backup of the entire computer data, including all files, folders, desktop settings, programs and operating systems, in units of logical disk drives, that is, users can specify a backup One or more logical disk drives to establish a recovery point that can be recovered from this recovery point when data needs to be recovered later.
The backup steps are as follows:

Select the drive to single-select or hold down the Ctrl key to select multiple (see Figure 7)→Select backup type (recovery point set or independent recovery point)→Specify The location where the recovery point is saved (if you choose to store to a network drive, you need to enter a username and password) → Specify recovery point options (including name, compression method, number of recovery point sets, and simple description) → Create mode → Report settings →Start backup

Figure 7
If you have no doubt about the previous settings, you can start the backup after confirmation (see Figure 8). After the backup is completed, it will be generated in the specified path. Two files, sv1i and *.v2i, note that these two files are indispensable, otherwise they will not be recovered in the future. At the same time, a dialog box will pop up to report to the user. It should be noted that Norton Save and Restore uses the recovery point set for backup by default, which means that only the incremental changes made to the computer since the last backup are included, in order to reduce the backup data. Occupied disk space, but also to improve the efficiency of backup, the advantage is that you can achieve incremental backup, I believe friends should be able to fully understand.

Figure 8
(Figure 9), you can continue to create a new backup here, or you can perform incremental backup (recovery point set) on the current system after the system is changed. Of course, you can delete the selected backup if needed.

2. Backup of any folder or file

This way only backup selected files and folders, is the file type and Folders are organized by unit. Norton Save and Restore categorizes the data according to the file extension (as shown in Figure 10), which includes documentation, financial burning, photos, music, videos, historical documents, or any other Type of data, you can choose as needed, of course, you can also click "Add Folder", "Add File" and "Add File Type" to continue adding other folders, the next step is no different from the backup computer. .

3. Copying the Hard Drive
When upgrading or adding a second hard drive, you can copy all existing files, programs and settings directly to the new drive. This is equivalent to a whole disk clone, but you must activate Norton Save and Restore to use this feature.
(2) Practical recovery function
Still enter the "Norton Save and Restore" tab, select "Restore", as shown in the figure, here provides three functions: recovery of the computer, recovery of files, browsing of recovery points, etc. Options, here is a brief introduction:
1. Recovery computer
(as shown in Figure 11), select a recovery click here, and then click the "Restore Computer" button, the program provides fast, custom two Recovery mode, the former is restored to the default original location, the latter can specify the recovery point for restoration, the degree of customization is higher.

Figure 11
2.Recovering files

Recovering files is different from restoring computers. You need to manually specify the files you need to restore, which can be files. Name, can also be a file extension, of course, you can also specify some key characters, as shown in Figure 12, it can be said that the operation is quite convenient.

Figure 12
3.Browse recovery points
This way you can use the Explorer to browse the folders stored in the existing recovery points, as shown in Figure 13 After selecting the recovery point, click the "Browse" button. After confirming, you can install the recovery point as a new drive letter. Click the "Change" button to assign another drive letter to it.

Figure 13
Now, we can do all the operations of Windows Explorer in the (Figure 14) window, and automatically unload the temporarily allocated drive after browsing.

Figure 14
Third, the creation of automatic recovery point management

In the window of Figure 4 there is a function of "edit backup schedule", this name is called There may be some sputum, in fact, it means "plan backup". With some simple settings, the user can complete the data backup at a certain time, and here also provides a very useful event trigger when the relevant conditions are met. Norton Save and Restore automatically activates the creation of recovery points, which is quite useful.
(Figure 15), select a backup here, and then click the "Edit Schedule" button, the dialog box shown in Figure 16 will pop up, the "Scheduling" tab can specify the time to run the backup. , Backup Interval, The Event Trigger tab allows you to specify trigger events for activating a backup, such as when installing any application, when a user logs on to the computer, or when the user logs off the computer.

However, if you have not activated the Norton Save and Restore product, then "the data added to the drive exceeds (*)MB The option will not be available.
If Norton Internet Security 2006 is installed in your system, Norton Save and Restore can work with it to implement the "virus outbreak warning backup" function. At this time, you will find the "Norton Protection Center" page in the main interface. It can be used normally. Every time Norton Internet Security 2006 issues a virus warning, Norton Save and Restore will automatically back up important data in the system to ensure the security of user data.
