1. Click the “Start” button and type public in the search box.
2. Click “Query more results”, then in the results list, double-click “Common”.
3. Select the public folder that best fits the shared file type and drag the file and folder to the public folder.
Creating a family group
With a family group, you can share files with other customers on your home network without having to move them around. Assuming there are no family groups in the network, you need to create one. Here's how:
1. Click the “Start” button, then click “Control Panel”.
2. Type the family group in the search box and click “family group”.
3. On the “Share with other home PCs running Win 7” page, click “Create Family Group”.
4. Select the checkboxes for the items you want to share, click “Next”, then click “Complete”.
5. On the “Change Family Group Settings page, click “Cancel”.
Join a family group
Assuming you already have a family group in your network, you can join the family group to share your files or printers with other customers, or even stream them to other customers in your family group. Music, video and pictures. The operation is as follows:
1. In the pc that is not used to create the family group, click the “Start” button, and then click “Control Panel”.
2. Type the family group in the search box and click “family group”.
3. On the “Share with other home PCs running Win 7” page, click “Join Now”.
4. Select the checkboxes for the items you want to share and click “Next”.
5. On the "Type Family Key" page, type the key you received from the family group creator and click “Next”.
6. On the "You have joined the family group" page, click “Complete”.
7. On the “Change Family Group Settings" page, click “Cancel”.
Note:
Assuming you don't see the "Join Family" option, it means that the family group has not been created yet.
Assuming the key is not received, the creator of the family group can be requested to open the family group on their pc, and then click “Query or print the family key”.
Query shared files
After joining a family group (and depending on your permissions), you can query or change files shared by other customers. Here's how:
1. Click the “Start” button, then click “pc”.
2. Under “Family Group>, select the pc with the file you want to query or change.
3. In the Library pane (above the file list), click the
item in the “Sort By"
Output Media
You can send media (such as photos and music) directly to compatible programs and devices over the network. This process is called "output”. Here's how:
4. Click the “Start” button, then click “Control Panel”.
5. Type the family group in the search box and click “family group”.
6. Check the “Export my pictures, music and videos to all devices on my home network” checkbox and click “Save Changes”.
7. On another PC that has joined the family group, open Win Media Player by clicking the "Start" button, "All Programs" and “Win Media Player”.
Assuming the player is currently open and you are in the "Playing" mode, click the "Switch to Library" button in the upper right corner of the player.
8. Under "Other Library", click on the pc that is outputting the media, then double-click on a category to query the available media.
