Windows 7 takes only 2 seconds from sleep to wakeup

With the advancement of Windows systems, Microsoft has increasingly emphasized the importance of sleep function. After sleep, the user can wake up the system in a few seconds, and if it is turned off and on, I am afraid that the time will be much longer, especially for systems such as Vista that have been criticized for startup time. Therefore, Microsoft intends to greatly shorten the system startup time in Windows 7, and tests have said that this time is only 15 seconds.

However, on the shutdown button option, Microsoft placed the sleep on the shutdown and the sleep function was streamlined. Dean DeWhitt, director of the Microsoft Windows kernel team, said: "In sleep mode, all documents, open programs and files will be saved in memory. Because only the memory needs power supply at this time, the power consumption at this time is quite small. For a notebook, it is only about 1W, and for a desktop computer, it is only about 3W. The biggest benefit is that in Windows 7, it takes only 2 seconds from sleep to wake-up. ”

As you can see from the chart below, the amount of electricity consumed for sleep and shutdown is not much different. But restarting the machine will not only take 15 seconds, but more power than wake up.

In addition, in notebooks, Windows 7 still provides a sleep mode, in which power consumption is almost zero.
