Explain the improved User Account Control (UAC) in Windows 7

Yesterday we analyzed Federated Search in Windows 7. Today we take a look at a feature that has been widely criticized in Vista: User Account Control (UAC). As long as the system changes slightly, it will pop up a dialog box to seek permission from the user, so it has become one of the most hated features in Vista. Also using UAC to judge a program is sometimes complicated.

And Microsoft offers only two options for UAC: turn on UAC or turn off UAC, and many users often choose to shut down because they can't stand the pain of UAC. So what changes has UAC made in Windows 7?

The E7 team introduced the new UAC in the blog. It clearly pointed out the feedback from users when they used UAC under Vista. Microsoft paid great attention to it. In Windows 7, Microsoft allows users to choose the UAC notification level, and also improved the user interface to add relevant information and tips. After the Windows 7 installation is complete, a protected administrator account will be created, but with a different UAC setting than Vista:

By default, only when the program changes The UAC prompt will pop up, and the user will not pop up a prompt when changing the system settings. The new UAC icon has also changed and looks more comfortable than Vista:

The UAC settings under Windows 7 provide a slider that allows the user to set the level of notifications, you can choose The following four options:

The following is a UAC prompt (blue) that pops up when you run a program published by a well-known company. :

The following is a UAC prompt (yellow) that pops up when running a program published by an unknown company:

You can see that the user can directly Set up UAC to reduce the frequency of notification windows that you don't want to see. Overall, the UAC experience under Windows 7 has been significantly improved compared to Vista, and the number of user clicks (the default setting) has been significantly reduced. The ultimate goal of UAC is to allow users to control system changes and reduce the number of pop-up notifications to avoid interfering with the user experience.
