Users who use computers have their own secret files, especially for business users, naturally they are not willing to let others use their own computers, so as not to cause leakage of trade secrets. But sometimes it is a bit ugly to not let others use their own computers. In fact, we can lock the hard disk of the computer by simple setting, so that others can access the restricted disk. This method is set up with Windows XP's group policy, which is very convenient and practical.
First click on "Start → Run" in the lower left corner of Windows and enter "gpedit.msc" in the dialog box, which opens the "Group Policy" settings window. Then in the Group Policy settings window, open the Local Computer Policy→User Configuration→Administrative Templates→Windows Components→Windows Explorer option. In the settings on the right, find the "Prevent access to the drive from ‘My Computer' option. Right click on the "Unconfigured" status of this option and select "Properties".
There are three options in the pop-up dialog box, "Not Configured", "Enabled", and "Disabled". Select "Enabled", and then a list of drop-down menus for selecting a drive will appear. If you want to restrict the use of a hard disk, hard disk partition or even an optical drive, just select the drive. For example, we want to limit the use of system disk C:, select "only limit drive C". If you want to turn off all hard drives, optical drives, etc., you can check "Restrict all drives" and click Apply or Save Settings.
The next step is to enter "My Computer" and click on the C drive or other restricted drive. It is worth mentioning that this method of setting Group Policy is very safe, even if someone else through the "Explorer", "Run" dialog box, Web browser and DIR commands, etc., can not view the files in the drive. In this way, users simply put all the important files in a partition and limit them, so they are not afraid of others discovering their secrets.
