Microsoft said an IP address was used to activate hundreds of Windows 7 copies

Microsoft filed a lawsuit in the Seattle District Court, claiming that Verizon's IP address, 74.111.202.30, was used to activate hundreds of Windows 7 copies, and it suspected that people behind the IP were involved in piracy. Users will automatically provide Microsoft with information such as activation date and IP address when activating Microsoft products. Microsoft said its forensic tools allowed the company to analyze billions of software activation models. It discovered hundreds of product activations from 74.111.202.30, and believed that the defendant used the same IP to activate the pirated software based on the activation characteristics.

Microsoft alleged that the defendants used stolen from the supply chain or unreleased or exceeds authorized limit multiple use product key to activate Windows 7 hundreds of copies.
