Is MBR going to GPT to reinstall the system? Do not lose data MBR to GPT partition table tutorial

Before the widespread adoption of UEFI+GPT, although many users' platforms can already enjoy the advantages brought by the new disk partitioning technology (such as significantly optimizing the system startup speed, etc.), most users are not very good. With it, the traditional Legacy+MBR mode is still selected, and the user can either continue to use it or back up the data to reinstall the system. The complexity is obvious. So, does MBR need to reinstall the system to GPT? In fact, reloading is just a way, do not lose data, do not reinstall the system can still transfer MBR to GPT partition table, the following is a tutorial, get together!

MBR to GPT to reinstall the system? No loss of data MBR to GPT partition table tutorial

The following small series to teach users how to losslessly convert the MBR partition table to GPT partition table, eliminating the tedious process of reinstalling the system. We know that in the operating system disk manager we can not perform partition table conversion on the system disk, because the hard disk usage scheme of these two partition tables is completely different.

This article takes a platform with Windows 7 system (hard disk partition table as MBR) as an example to explain the conversion process. Before the conversion, we first need the Windows PE environment. It is recommended that you prepare a bootable USB flash drive, download the Windows PE image online (with DiskGenius or other disk management tools), and then use UltraISO and other tools to make it a bootable USB flash drive.

Note: Partition table conversion is risky. To ensure security, users are required to back up partition table and hard disk data.

First step: Start the U disk, boot from Windows PE, boot into the Windows PE environment, run DiskGenius, first back up the hard disk partition table of the operating system to the U disk, once the operation fails, you can back up The partition table is re-imported to the operating system disk.

After backing up the partition table, we use DiskGenius to convert the operating system disk from MBR mode to GPT (GUID) mode.

Step 2: We know the UEFI+GPT mode. The operating system disk requires an ESP partition and is required. For the Legacy+MBR mode Windows 7 system disk, there can be a 100MB/350MB hidden partition or not (this is mainly based on how the user partitions the disk partition before installing the operating system).

For a disk system that uses Windows system installation tools to partition disk partitions, there will usually be a 100MB/350MB hidden partition. At this time, we can just convert it into an ESP partition.

To convert a hidden partition to an ESP partition, you first need to delete it, then create it as an ESP partition and reassign the drive letter.

After creating the ESP partition table, copy the Windows 7 ESP partition file to the ESP partition root directory.

Next run “ EFI partition repair tool & rdquo;, repair boot can be, Windows directory select system partition Windows folder.

Step 3: For the operating system disk without hidden partition, we need to run DiskGenius at this time, select the partition of the disk operating system, right click “Resize the partition”, set the space in front of the partition to 100MB, then select the gray disk partition, create a partition, and specify it as an ESP partition, remember not to specify the drive letter.

The next step is to save the previous operation, restart the PE, and then run DiskGenius again, specify the drive letter for the newly created ESP partition (if you do not restart the system to directly specify the drive letter, the parameter error will be reported) .

Copy the Windows 7 ESP partition file to the ESP partition root directory as well. Next run “ EFI partition repair tool & rdquo;, repair boot can be, Windows directory select the system partition Windows folder.

Step 4: After these steps are completed, restart the system and enter the BIOS to set the BIOS to UEFI mode or Legacy+UEFI mixed mode.

Save the BIOS settings, and the modification is complete. Restart the system and you can enter the Windows 7 system in UEFI mode.

Ps. Do not reload, do not lose data, MBR to GPT partition table tutorial is also more cumbersome, Xiaobian feels better than formatted hard disk re-partition reloading system comes simply!

Users hot discussion:

  • Speak well, but it feels very troublesome, I decided to reinstall the system decisively!

  • The operation is so cumbersome... It’s better to reload it with ease and stability.

  • The screenshots are not a hard disk! Where did you copy it? To put it bluntly, DiskGenius Professional's lossless disk format conversion, the free version does not have this feature. What is the technical content?

  • MBR to GPT focus on repair guidance, your horse is not to focus, the old man is very disappointed, this year Xiaobian level is too bad, but also write articles flicker.
