Microsoft releases new window7 patch that improves Intel processor stability

Microsoft today released another hot fix, KB2493989, which has a microcode update for Intel processors to improve the stability of specific models.

Microsoft said in the Knowledge Base article that some features of the 64-bit version of Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008 R2 may not work properly on some models of Intel processors, regardless of whether the RTM version or the SP1 version is in this way.

However, Microsoft stressed that this is not a common phenomenon, but is limited to the Intel Core and Xeon series codenamed Merom, Penryn, which is the first generation 65nm process and the second generation 45nm Core architecture product. The affected processor has a Stepping value of 6, and a Model value of 15, 22, 23, or 29. These attribute values can be viewed by CPU-Z.

If you are using the processor and operating system mentioned above and have encountered some inexplicable stability issues, try this hot fix. By convention, it will be integrated into the Windows 7/Server 2008 R2 SP2 upgrade package.
