How does win7 complete file encryption? VHD and BitLocker to help you

It is understood that now win7's new features have a useful feature, that is, Win7 comes with encryption function, VHD and BitLocker function, complete the encryption of the win system, let's go together.

Create a VHD file to prepare for encryption

Our idea is very simple, use VHD function to create a virtual hard disk in the system, then use BitLocker to encrypt, then we can save our privacy file in this "Encrypted disk".

VHD is a virtual disk file of Microsoft VirtualPC. In Win7 system, we can create and mount VHD separately. The role of VHD has been mentioned many times before, so I will not repeat it here, directly in Win7. Create a VHD file.

Right click on "Computer" and select "Manage". In "Computer Management", we click on "Disk Management" and right click on "Create VHD". Click "Browse" here or enter the path of the VHD we want to create, such as C:cw.vhd. After the determination, fill in the size of the virtual hard disk, the size can be determined according to the available space of the hard disk and its own needs, and other options can be selected by default. Once determined, the system will begin to create a new disk.

On the Disk Management page, we can see this newly created disk that is displayed as "unknown". Right click and select "Initialize Disk", then we can partition in this unallocated disk. Right-click on "New Simple Volume", partition in the dialog box that appears, or continue to "Next" until it is completed.

Here, our task of creating a VHD is complete. But we have this VHD, and others can still access the VHD we created. So why don't we let others access it?

Encrypt disk with BitLocker

Here we come out is the "key person" who completes the encryption task - BitLocker. BitLocker is a data encryption function that has been added since Vista. In Win7, we can easily use this function for disk encryption.

In the Explorer, select the VHD partition we just created, right click and enable BitLocker. In the pop-up dialog box, select "Use password to unlock the drive", enter the password, click Next (Figure 3), and in the next step, select "Save recovery key to file" to avoid accidentally forgetting the password. Finally click on "Enable Encryption" and the encryption task is complete.
