The Windows 7 kernel version has not changed and is still 7.0

The version number and kernel version of Windows 7 will always confuse many people. A few days ago, there was even news that Microsoft intended to change the kernel version of Windows 7.

The development code and kernel version of Windows have always been consistent. According to this convention, the kernel version of Windows 7 should be 7.0. However, due to compatibility issues, Microsoft pointed out that the kernel of Windows 7 is consistent with Vista, which is 6.1.

For this, Microsoft Windows 7 development team member Brandon Live gave the following explanation:

"Initially we named this system Windows 7 not for commercial reasons, but our internal development code. The current version started from 7.0. But then we found a lot of program and driver compatibility issues. This changed the API program interface to 6.1 to ensure that existing drivers and programs do not have compatibility issues on Windows 7.

Now I feel it is necessary to clarify that Windows 7 is Windows 7.0. Say, there has never been a 6.1 core statement, and some are just Windows 7 kernels."

Windows 7 is Windows 7.0, is there any other argument?
