Dolby Laboratories: Windows 8 starts to have its DVD technology no longer built in

Dolby Labs Supervisor, Chief Financial Officer Murray disclosed the situation about them and Windows 8 at the press conference today, unfortunately Dolby DVD playback technology will not appear in Windows 8, and Dolby's technology has not yet developed in the new system, but the company said it is seeking an expansion of technology licensing.

After the announcement of this news, Dolby stocks have fallen. Currently Dolby DVD playback technology is built into Windows 7 Advanced, Professional, Enterprise and Ultimate, and Dolby Digital+ technology is also built in Windows 7 Home Premium, Professional and Ultimate, it is used to complement the sound quality during playback. As long as users use Windows Media Center, they will inevitably have access to Dolby's technology.

The lack of DVD playback technology is probably related to the increasing popularity of online video. It is expected that after the popularity of Windows 8, DVD will no longer be a popular broadcast medium, and high-definition content brought by broadband network and Blu-ray will be replaced.
