New, Refresh, and Other Commands in Windows 8 Applications

Commands such as New, Refresh, and Play are very important when using an app. These are operational commands, such as adding attachments to a message and making the text bold, pausing and skipping tracks while listening to music. Although these commands are very important, they are only occasionally needed and take up a lot of space. In order for you to do something in full screen mode (such as reading a web page or watching a video), the application commands will be hidden when you don't need them.

When you are ready to use these commands, they are displayed at the top or bottom of the screen, or as a menu for the selected item. For example, on the "Start" screen, you can swipe up or right click to view all application commands, or swipe down or right click on a tile to select it and see the changes.
