Currently, there are many video file formats, but the video files supported by the Windows system are limited in format and require a variety of players and decoders to be installed. Now, Windows 10 can natively support video playback in the MKV package format.

If you open the video file with the suffix MKV directly in Windows 10 Technology Preview with Windows Media Player, the player will still prompt you that the extension is not recognized, but you can play the video smoothly by ignoring the prompt. . In previous versions of Windows, MKV video files could not be played after being ignored.

MKV video encoding format are not, precisely encapsulation format, as is a container that can accommodate a variety of video, audio encoding, so native support MKV means that it is not difficult to support multiple audio and video formats natively. Some analysts say that perhaps because of this, Windows 10 Technology Preview does not fully open this feature.

Note: MKV files generally do not have subtitles. If you need subtitles when watching movies, you should find subtitle files and run subtitle software.
