ASR disk set creation under the win 2003 system

ASR disk set is useful in the system, but creating a ASR disk set using backup is not an easy task for many users. Creating an ASR disk set using a backup To use ASR, you must have an ASR disk set. To create an ASR disk set, perform the following steps:

Click Start, point to All Programs, point to Accessories, point to System Tools, and then click Backup.

By default, the Backup or Restore Wizard will be launched unless the wizard is disabled. You can create an ASR disk set by using the “Backup or Restore Wizard” in the <;What do you want to back up?" section to answer “all information on this computer”. Otherwise, you can go to the next step and create an ASR disk set in advanced mode.

Click the Advanced Mode link in the "Backup or Restore Wizard".

On the Tools menu, click ASR Wizard.

Follow the instructions that appear on the screen.

Note:

You need an empty 1.44 megabyte (MB) floppy disk to save your system settings and a media to hold the backup files. If your computer does not have a floppy drive, perform an ASR backup on a computer that does not have a floppy drive. Copy the Asr.sif and Asrpnp.sif files from the %SystemRoot%\\Repair folder to other computers with floppy drives and copy them to a floppy disk.

To perform this procedure, you must be a member of the Administrators group or the Backup Operators group on the local computer, or you must have the appropriate authorization. If the computer is joined to a domain, members of the Domain Admins group should be able to perform this procedure. As a safety guarantee, “best practices”, consider using the “Run As” procedure to perform this process.

This procedure backs up only those system files that are necessary to start your system. You must back up the data files separately.

After creating the ASR set, tag the floppy disk, then carefully back up the media and keep them together. To use backup media, you must have a floppy disk created with that media set. You cannot use floppy disks created at different times or with different media sets. You must also have an installation CD available when you perform ASR.

Keep your ASR collection in a safe place. The ASR set contains information about the system configuration that may be used to compromise your system.

If you are backing up a server cluster, run the “Automatic System Recovery Wizard on all nodes of the cluster and ensure that the cluster service is running when you start each ASR backup. When running the "Automatic System Recovery Preparation Wizard", make sure that one of the nodes running the wizard is listed as the owner of the quorum resource.

If you need to use the ASR disk set, you can try to create it with this method, but remember that you must have an ASR disk set first. Don't just look at it, you can try it yourself. .
