How does Win10 Mobile/PC use random wireless network card MAC address to prevent tracking?

When a device such as our phone/tablet is connected to a wireless network, the device sends a signal to search for the wireless network in the area to help get the connection. This signal contains the unique physical hardware (MAC) address of the device. Some locations (for example, shopping centers, stores, or other public areas) use this unique address to track your whereabouts in that area. If you don't want to be tracked, you can use a random hardware address (MAC).

Friends using Win10 Mobile may have discovered that this feature is already included in the system. But many PC users may not know it, but it is also included in the Win10 desktop version. However, using this feature requires a wireless network card to provide hardware support. The specific setting method is as follows:

1, open the setting —— network and Internet—— WLAN (WiFi);

2, select the network to use, click the following “ advanced option ”, as shown below:

3, open “ use random hardware address for this network & rdquo; You can also set it to automatically change your Mac address every day, as shown below:

Of course you can also turn on the random hardware address for all wireless networks by clicking on &ldquo in the second step above. Manage WiFi settings & rdquo;, then open “Use random hardware address” as shown below:

If your device wireless network card does not support random hardware addresses, then it will not appear Related setup options. Check with your friends using Windows 10 tablets or laptops to see if your wireless card supports this feature.
