Win8 login Skype prompts disk input and output error and can't log in to Skype

Many users said that when they try to log in to Skype on Win8 system, there is a disk input and output error prompt (as shown below), so they can't log in to Skype. . Skype is a must-have tool for many people, and it can cause great losses if it is not available. Let's take a look at how to solve this problem.

Solution

First make sure you are using the latest version of Skype. If the problem persists, there are two ways to fix disk input and output errors.

Method 1: Delete and re-create your user folder

1. Exit Skype. If you can see the Skype icon in the taskbar (in the lower right corner of the screen), right click on it and select Exit. If you can't see the Skype icon, use Task Manager to turn off Skype. Press Ctrl + Alt + Delete and start Task Manager. On the "Applications" tab, select Skype and then click End Task.

2. At the start screen, press the Windows key on your keyboard. If you use a touch screen, tap the right side of the screen and select “Start”.

3. Open the file search option, then copy and paste the following path:

%appdata%\\Skype

4. Find the same file as your Skype username Clip and delete it. If you normally log in using Microsoft Mail, the name of the folder will start with live:.

Please note that this step will delete your chat history. If you want to save your chat history in advance, open the above folder and copy the main.db file and the chatsync folder to another location. You can then copy the chat history back. Please note that we cannot guarantee that all your chats will be restored.

5. Restart the Skype program and log in with your Skype username and password. If you have forgotten your password, you can click here to find out how to retrieve your password.

6. The folder you deleted in step 4 will be regenerated. If you saved your previous chat history (described in step 4), copy the previously transferred file back to the original path.

Method 2

When you try to change some environment variables (possibly temporary files) to other file locations, it is possible that the system lacks some of the necessary permissions to perform this operation. These steps may use the C:\\ Temp temporary folder, but they can be other locations where temporary files are stored. To fix this problem, do the following:

1. Exit Skype.

2. Open C:\\ and right click on the Temp folder.

3. Click on “Properties”.

4. Click the Security tab.

5. Click Edit.

6. Click “Add” in the temporary file permissions that are open.

7. Make sure the location field shows your computer name. If the name of your computer is not displayed, please perform the following steps first.

Click “Location”.

Select your computer name from the list of locations.

Click OK.

8. In the Name Selection box, select “All Application Packages”.

9. Click Check Name; confirm that all application packages are selected.

10.Click OK.

11. All applications will be given access to the C:\\Temp folder.

12. Click the checkbox to confirm full control, modify, read, and execute list folder contents, read and write, and grant full control of all application packages.

13. Click OK to close the permissions temporary window.

14. Click OK to close the temporary properties window.

15. Re-open and re-run Skype.

The above is the solution for the Windows 8 system login Skype disk input and output error prompts. The operation was a bit cumbersome, but in the end we were able to successfully log in to Skype to avoid unnecessary losses caused by the inability to use Skype.
