Subst command has a magical effect

Although today is the world of Windows, but some DOS commands are still very useful, such as Fdisk, Format, etc., here is the Subst command, its role is to use a drive letter to replace a folder. Don't look at this little program, sometimes it can help us solve big problems.

1, free floppy disk installation software
Some software needs to read information from the floppy disk during installation, but it will inevitably cause damage to the floppy disk every time it reads information from the floppy disk (may There are a lot of bad floppy disks around us!). In fact, we can completely copy all the files on the floppy disk to the hard disk, such as C:Floopy. After installing the software in the future, you can enter the “Subst a: c:floopy” command in the “Start” and “Run” windows. Insert the floppy disk. This protects our floppy disk.

2, let WinZip compress files with relative path
I don't know if you noticed it, there is a "Save full path info" in WinZip's "Add files" dialog box (WinZip 7.0 is "Save Extra" Folder Info ”) option, once selected, WinZip will be pressed into the ZIP file with all the files except the file, and will be released along with all the folder information when it is released next time. Some inconvenience. In fact, to solve this problem, use the Subst command. To compress all the files under c:zipfilesfiles together with the files in the subfolders, just type "Subst o: c:zipfilesfiles" in the "Start Run" window, then open the Explorer and double-click the O drive. All files and folders can be compressed relative to each other.

3, burning long path files
Now using CD-R to store data is more and more common, but many CD burning software can not burn long path files, once the number of layers of the folder exceeds A certain number cannot be burned. In fact, smart readers already know what to do when they see point 2 above. It is also a copy of the folder where these long path files are located, and can be dragged at will. For example, the author will copy a long path folder into a J disk, and then burn the CD-R in Nero - Burning Rom, it is normal!
