Edge browser is compatible with Chrome extension

Computer store news: Microsoft has launched the extended application page of Edge browser, the next preview version of Win10 RS1, Edge browser should be able to use the extension function.

We saw three first extensions, Microsoft translations, mouse gestures, and reddit extensions. Developer Bavo Luysterborg found that the three extensions are almost 100% compatible with Chrome.

Bavo claims that the Edge extension has almost the same code as Chrome, except that the "chrome" field is replaced with "msBrowser" and there are two minor changes to the manifest.json.

According to this, Bavo successfully enabled mouse gestures, reddit extensions, etc. on Chrome, and it seems that the work is pretty good.

This means that Microsoft's so-called "Compatible with Chrome, FireFox Extensions" at last year's Build conference is not groundless. At least for Chrome, the extended application can be launched on Edge by simply modifying the local code.

Windows 10 is now not only transforming the project of iOS 1.5 million applications, but now Edge has also extended its reach to its rivals. Microsoft is working hard to create a big unification ecosystem.
