Win10 Edge browser will natively support Skype audio and video chat

Computer Store News: As one of Microsoft's important products, Skype is a good tool for many users to communicate online.

Microsoft announced that Skype for Web will provide native support for voice calls and video calls to Edge browsers by the end of the year without the need to install any plug-ins.

Edge users can now make voice and video calls using Skype in Outlook.com. However, the functionality mentioned above is the benefit of Edge's support for the ORTC (Object Real-Time Communication) API.

Microsoft said today in the Skype blog:

Starting later this year, Skype users will be able to make voice calls and video calls directly in the Edge browser without having to install any plugins. Efforts are being made to bring the same seamless experience to Skype for Business users.

We are very excited about the application scenarios supported by the ORTC API and are proud to use these ORTC APIs for the first time in the Edge browser. The ORTC API will help us develop advanced real-time communication scenarios, such as hangouts with other browser/operating system users who use simultaneous simulcasting and scalable video encoding, while also easily interoperating with existing communication networks. .

If you want to try out this feature for the first time, you can join the Windows Insider affiliate program and use the Windows 10 preview. However, the features in the test may not be stable, so if you have important video or voice calls, it is best to use the existing official version of Skype to avoid mistakes.
