Latest data: Win7/Win8.1 share continues to grow, Win10 slightly rises

Computer store news: Microsoft's latest Win10 system will be released this summer, when Net Applications released the March 2015 desktop operating system market share report, the report shows that Windows 7 global share has risen sharply, while Windows 8 and 8.1 remains steady.

Net Applications obtains statistics by monitoring PCs that access websites. Data shows that in March of this year, Windows 7 was still the highest-market PC operating system, accounting for 58.04% of the total. Compared with the 55.99% market share data in February, it has risen sharply. The market share of Windows 8.1 in March was 10.55%, only slightly higher than 10.49% in February. The March share of Windows 8 was 3.52%, slightly lower than the 3.55% in February.

Let's take a look at Windows XP, which was abandoned by Microsoft. It ranked second with 16.94% in March, but far below the market share of 19.15% in February. Windows Vista had only 1.97% share in March.

The growth of Win7 and Win8.1 shares may be related to Win10's free upgrade strategy. Because Microsoft has promised to allow users of both systems to upgrade to the latest Windows 10 for free, and keep it updated for life. If this is the case, then after the official release of Win10, this part of the user will move to Win10. A preview version of Windows 10 is now installed on 0.09% of computers worldwide, compared to 0.08% in February.
