WP7.8 retired this year? No, extension support still has a play

Computer store news: Today, Microsoft helped the support center to unveil the next generation WP8.1 life cycle, which will take effect from June 24 this year. As of July 1, 2017, the cumulative 36-month life cycle. The mainstream service support for Microsoft WP7.8 devices will end on September 9 this year, with an 18-month life cycle.

Many WP users believe that the mainstream support service of Windows Phone 7.8 system expires, which means that the first generation of WP7.x devices has been retired and officially withdrawn from the historical arena.

In fact, you may have forgotten an extended support service.

In mainstream support services, Microsoft will provide operating system updates for Windows Phone smartphones, including security updates, for a period of 18 months from the start of the lifecycle. The updated distribution may be controlled by the mobile operator or handset manufacturer of the mobile phone that the user purchased. The availability of updates will vary by country, region, and hardware configuration.

When mainstream support services are over, Microsoft will also offer a short-term extended support service, "Extended Support," which is very similar to the lifecycle of the desktop Windows platform. In the extended support service, Microsoft will continue to provide security updates and fix updates.

Of course, this extended support service is only a transition period, mainly to help the original WP7.8 users migrate to the WP8.1 new device platform, similar to the XP system users migrated to the Win8.1 platform.

Compared to Microsoft Windows Phone 7.8, Google's Android platform also uses an 18-month lifecycle.
