Global PC shipments decline Win8 is responsible for the main responsibility?

Computer Store News: On Wednesday, market research firm IDC released the company's latest data on global PC shipments. Data show that global PC shipments fell 13.9% from the first quarter of 2013, below market expectation. IDC said that one of the main reasons why PC shipments fell so fast when Windows 8 was released, the new user interface, the lack of a start menu, and some other lack of power supply made it less attractive than a tablet. ”.

On the same day, another well-known market research firm, Gartner, also released the company's PC shipments report for the first quarter of 2013. Like IDC, the report shows that global PC shipments have fallen sharply, falling below 80 million units. Gartner's data is slightly better than IDC's, pointing out that global PC shipments fell 11.2% compared to the same period last year.

Gartner agrees with IDC's statement that consumers are now more willing to buy smartphones and tablets than to buy desktops or laptops. But Gartner did not blame Windows8 for the sharp drop in PC shipments. Gartner analyst Isabelle Durand pointed out: "Mobile devices with touch screens give PC makers a good chance to gain market share, but at present, shipments of Win8 devices with touch screens only account for global PCs. a small part. More consumers are willing to buy a regular PC device instead of a model with a touch screen. But even so, in the second half of 2013, we have reason to believe that touch screen and Windows 8 will play a very important role in the PC market. ” Gartner believes that the current decline in PC shipments is not due to the release of Windows 8, but because the price of computer devices with touch screens is too expensive. According to the company's forecast, PC makers will have better performance in the second half of 2013 if they launch cheap touch-screen Win8 devices. Like IDC, Gartner did not include Windows 8-based tablet devices in PC shipment statistics, and Surface Pro was not included. However, both organizations are likely to include sales of Surface Pro devices in future reports.
