Personal and business users are not interested in Win8?

Computer store news: Nomura Securities analyst Rick · Rick Sherlund said in a research report on Wednesday that Windows 8 failed to reverse the decline in PC sales, consumers prefer smartphones and tablets.

Sherande wrote in the report, “As consumers and emerging market users prefer smartphones and tablets rather than Windows-based PCs, PC sales are shrinking, and Windows 8 continues. It has also failed to reverse this decline. ”

Microsoft launched Win8 in October last year. Investors had hoped that PC makers could use the power of Windows 8 to address the challenges of the entire industry's transition to mobile products. It is also the first version of Windows that uses touch functionality as a core feature. To this end, Microsoft and many hardware partners have begun to develop PC products that support touch screens, including hybrid devices that can be used as both tablets and notebooks.

But Xie Lande pointed out that consumers seem to be not interested in Windows 8 tablets. He wrote: "Windows 8 tries to integrate the intuitive usability of the tablet with the compatibility and functionality of the PC, but in the end it is in awkward situation. For consumers, as long as the number of low-priced tablets and smartphones on the market is sufficient, and it is easy to meet individual consumer needs through some Office replacement tools, they do not need such integration.

Microsoft has not commented on the content of this report.

Sherande said that not only individual users do not buy, but even corporate users are not interested in Windows 8. He wrote in the report: “So far, the corporate market has not shown much interest in Windows 8, which makes investors feel uneasy and Microsoft stocks are under pressure. However, Xie Rand believes that the unfavorable situation facing Microsoft may change. Even if enterprises are not interested in tablet PCs, as the price of equipment declines, battery life increases, and the Windows 8 application market continues to expand. Business users will be increasingly interested in Windows 8.

Over time, companies will be able to use Windows 8 to conduct some experimental projects and gradually increase their trust in this operating system. The latest version of the Office suite also helps drive sales of Windows 8 in the enterprise market. Xie Rand wrote: “Because of the sluggish sales in the early days of Windows 8, the outside world will certainly have doubts, but if Microsoft improves in some areas, we also have reason to be optimistic about the operating system in the second half of 2013. ”

However, Windows 8 sales will not be as strong as Xie Rand originally expected. To this end, he has lowered his performance expectations for Microsoft's new fiscal year. Sherande expects Microsoft's revenue to grow 8% to $79.6 billion in the current fiscal year ending June 30, while he expected Microsoft's full-year revenue to grow 9% to $80 billion.

He also expects Microsoft's current fiscal year operating profit to grow 3% to $28.9 billion, lower than his previous estimate of $29.2 billion (4% increase). Xie Rand said: "Microsoft has no good news recently, but it is expected that the performance will rebound later this year. ”
