How to install XenServer on Windows 8

It is necessary to install virtualization tools on the virtual machine, whether it is the hypervisor or the operating system (OS) that manages the virtual machine. In this set of tools you can find drivers that support virtualized network devices, disk controller drivers, and a management agent that provide better integration and program management. The agent can provide feedback on the performance and operational status to the hypervisor.

Although installing the tool is a simple matter, it is important to note that you must restart the virtual machine after installation, as is the case with any hypervisor.

The reason for restarting the host is because the disk controller driver and some network drivers cannot be hot removed and replaced. Rebooting the VM allows the host to go back to initialization.

For the virtual machine to install XenServer, you must first install the XenServer tool, first open the Xenserver dialog. In the right window, you can see that XenServer lists some virtual machines. A notification link that says "XenServer tool is not installed" will appear part of the description of the VM.

Click on the "XenServer Tools Not Installed" link and follow the instructions below to install these tools on your virtual machine. This process is very simple and there is almost no place for you to choose, except to accept the EULA agreement and then restart the virtual machine. Need to pay attention, whether the restart is optional during your installation process, this step is critical.

Restarting this may be the only problem encountered in the build system. It will advise you to wait until you have a clear maintenance window for you to install.

I have never had any errors when installing the tool, although I can always see a lot of posts about problems with errors during installation. In my experience, Citrix's XenServer virtualization tool is different from any other installation and maintenance. All you need to do is install the XenServer tool, reboot, check if the tool is working, and then follow some maintenance, upgrades, and patches.

If you have any problems during your installation, you can go into Safe Mode or Normal Mode and go to the Control Panel -> > > Program Uninstaller. Find the "Virtual Machine Citrix Tool" to uninstall it. Uninstallation also requires a reboot, so consider it before you do it.

Running on Windows Server 2012 or Windows 8, you have to know, although you can install XenServer on these operating systems, but if you try to install the tools as usual, the currently supported operating system version, the installation will Will fail. During the installation you will receive a prompt saying that the XenServer tool does not support the operating system.

To successfully install XenServer, you first need to mount an xs-tools.iso image on the virtual drive of the VM, open Windows Explorer on the VM, open my computer, open the CD icon (right click - Open), right click on the xensetup.exe file and select Properties.

Select the Compatibility tab and click the <; Run this program in compatibility mode: “ checkboxes by clicking the Windows 7 drop-down menu. Select “Windows 7“Windows 8 or Windows Server 2012. Click OK, then you can fully install the xensetup.exe program.

Once he restarts, the tool will notify you to install a new device driver for your disk controller and network interface. You will get a new proxy service running on the Citrix virtual machine tool.

Although I just introduced the process of using Citrix's XenServer. It should also apply to any set of virtual machine hypervisor tools. In general, this method works for any executable that is not strictly compatible or designed for Windows 8 or Windows Server 2012.

Unless the vendor has created a 100% virtual operating system, you will have to install the virtual software on your system.
