Loading the operating system into the mobile hard disk
1. Detecting the installation conditions When making the mobile hard disk booting system, first check whether the motherboard of the host computer supports the mobile hard disk booting. As follows: Press F2 or Del when booting to enter the BIOS settings. After opening the “Advanced BIOS Features setting” option, find the “First boot device” option to see if it has the “USB-HDD” option. If you have this option, then your motherboard can support USB mobile hard disk to boot the system. 2. Write bootable information for the mobile hard disk. In the above test, your mobile hard disk failed to boot to the DOS system, indicating that your mobile hard disk does not support the USB-HDD boot function. Don't worry, this doesn't mean you can't make it. We can use third-party software USBoot and Partitionmagic to write boot information for mobile hard drives. Connect the mobile hard disk under Windows XP, start the USBoot program, and you can see the model of the mobile hard disk in the list. Select the mobile hard drive, click “click here to select the work mode”, select "ldld; HDD mode" in the pop-up menu. Click the “Start” button to proceed. A warning will pop up at this point. After the determination, the software will start writing relevant information to the USB hard disk. At the prompt “Please unplug the USB drive”, unplug the mobile hard disk. Then the program will prompt "Please insert the U disk again", you need to connect the mobile hard disk to the host again, so the software will write the startup information to the USB hard disk, and prompt the operation is successful. Because USBoot has some compatibility issues with large-capacity USB mobile hard drives, you also need to use Partitionmagic 8.0 to fix the partition. After starting PartitionMagic, the software will automatically prompt you to find a partition error on the USB hard disk and ask if it needs to be repaired. After determining, PartitionMagic will automatically repair the partition. When finished, right click on the partition labeled "USBHDD-BOOT" in the partition list, select the pop-up menu command "Convert → FAT32", command, and then click the "Apply" button in the lower left corner of the window, PartitionMagic Start working on the USB hard drive. Finally, the program will prompt to restart the computer, select “ Yes & rdquo; restart the computer. 3. Divide the system installation partition After writing the boot information for the mobile hard disk, there is still a lot of space allocated on the mobile hard disk. You can open the “Control Panel & Rarr; Management Tools & Rarr; Computer Management” item, and then expand “Storage & Rarr; Hard Disk Management & rdquo; sub-item, right-click on the unallocated space, select the “Create” command from the pop-up menu, and follow the prompts to complete the partitioning and formatting operations. In operation, it is best to divide a system partition separately for installing Windows XP systems, while other partitions are used to store data. When the partition is complete, right-click on the first system partition and select the “Hold disk partition” as the active ” command in the pop-up menu to use the partition to boot the system. During the operation, it is important to remember to mark the system partition as active in the disk management tool. Otherwise, after the Windows XP system is installed, the normal boot operation will not be possible. 4, install Windows XP on the mobile hard disk Now we have to install Windows XP system on the mobile hard disk, its installation method is almost no different from the operation on the ordinary hard disk, but it should be noted that the BIOS must be in the BIOS before installation. Lieutenant General “First boot device” set to “CD-ROM” After booting using the Windows XP installation CD, select the drive letter of the Windows XP system to be installed as the mobile hard disk system partition. After confirming the installation program, you can start copying the installation files. When the file is copied, the Windows XP installer will ask to restart the system. After restarting, you need to enter the BIOS again, and set "First boot device" to "USB-HDD", so that you can boot the system using the mobile hard disk. Complete the installation of Windows XP. When choosing a Windows XP system installation partition, some mobile hard disks will be incompatible, and the Windows XP installer will prompt that it cannot be installed on this partition. When encountering such problems, you can consider using the "Windows XP Universal Ghost" installation CD provided online, directly use the Ghost program to install the system for the mobile hard disk, thus skipping the Windows XP partition detection process.
