Monitor Windows Server 2008 in real time with Spotlight

Windows Server 2008 has been gradually promoted and applied as a server platform, and its rich features and good stability have won a good reputation. However, compared with Windows Server 2003, the system's self-monitoring function has not improved much. Therefore, in order to obtain the running status information of the server in real time to ensure its safe and stable operation, the administrator also needs to deploy a third-party tool. I recommend Spotlight on Windows for everyone, it can meet your real-time monitoring needs of the server, let you know the running status of the server.

Spotlight can be downloaded from its official website (http://www.quest.com/spotlight-on-windows/). The installation process is very simple and can be easily done according to the installation wizard. .

Spotlight supports local monitoring and remote monitoring of the server, but you need to create a connection before monitoring, and then activate the connection to monitor the server. The process of creating a connection is relatively simple, to create a local connection and a remote connection, respectively. Run Spotlight to open its main interface. There are three functions in the left pane, Live connections, All connections, and Welcome to Spotlight. Click on the All connections item. There are two items below: Spotlight on windows (freeware) and Spotlight on windows Clusters. The first one is used to create and set up local monitoring connections. The second is to implement cluster monitoring to monitor multiple servers locally. . We use local monitoring as an example to demonstrate how to create a server connection.

Right click on "Spotlight on windows (freeware)" and select "Connection manager" to open the connection management window. Double-click New connection to open the connection setup wizard, select Spotlight on windows (freeware) in the Select connection type, enter the connection name after New connection name (in this case, Windows Server 2008) Click "ok" to enter the next setting panel. In this panel, you need to enter various connection information. If you want to monitor the remote server, you must enter its IP address, Domain (domain name), User (user name), and Password (password). Because it is local monitoring, we check Local Machine is fine. Click "ok" to create a connection, as shown in Figure 1. (Figure 1)

Tip: If you want to modify the properties of a connection, first select the connection, then click to expand the "Tools" menu to the right of it to select "Properties" Make changes. At the same time, the connection can be deleted, renamed, etc. under the menu item.
