How to Repair Windows Installation
You can run a Windows Installer from the Windows CD to repair a corrupted Windows Server 2003 installation.

to repair a Windows installation, perform the following steps:
  1. insert Windows Server 2003 CD in the CD-ROM or DVD-ROM drive.
  2. If the Windows CD shows the "What do you want to do?" menu, click Exit.
  3. Turn off your computer, wait 10 seconds, then turn it back on.
  4. If you are prompted to start your computer from the CD, do so.

    Note: You must have before they can run Windows Setup from the Windows Server 2003 CD-ROM to start the computer. The CD-ROM or DVD-ROM drive must be configured to perform this operation. For information about how to configure your computer to boot from a CD-ROM or DVD-ROM drive, see the documentation that came with your computer or contact your computer manufacturer.
  5. After the installation begins, press Enter to continue the installation process.
  6. Press Enter to select the "To install Windows now, press Enter" option. Do not select the Recovery Console option.
  7. Press the F8 key to accept the license agreement.

    Setup searches for previous Windows installation.
  8. If the installer does not find a previous Windows Server 2003 installation, there may be a hardware failure.

  9. If the installer finds a previous Windows Server 2003 installation, the following message may be displayed:

    If one of the following Windows Server 2003 installations is corrupted, the installer may try to fix it. Use the up and down arrows to select an installation. To fix the selected installation, press the R key. To continue without repairing, press the Esc key.
    Select the appropriate Windows Server 2003 operating system installation and press R to try to fix it.

  10. Follow the on-screen instructions to fix the installation. Note:
  11. You may need to change the order in which the drives are booted in the BIOS settings in order to successfully boot your computer from the Windows Server 2003 CD. Please contact your computer manufacturer or refer to the documentation provided by the manufacturer for more information.
  12. If you are unable to boot your computer from the Windows Server 2003 CD, there may be a CD-ROM or DVD-ROM drive failure or other hardware failure.
