This article describes how to change the IP address that has been assigned to the network adapter. If your network has a "Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol" (DHCP) server, the IP address will be assigned automatically, otherwise you can specify an IP address.
How to change the IP address assigned to the network adapter
Log in to the computer with an administrator account.
Click Start, point to Control Panel, point to Network Connections, and then click the local connection you want to modify.
In the Connection Status dialog box, click Properties.
Right-click on the required local connection and click Properties. The “Local Network Connection Properties” dialog box will appear on the screen.
In the <;This connection uses the following items” box, click Internet Protocol (TCP/IP), and then click Properties. The “Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) Properties & rdquo; dialog box will appear on the screen.

Troubleshooting
IP address conflicts: If you try to assign an occupied IP address, you will see the following error message:
ThestaticIPaddressthatwasjustconfiguredisalreadyinuseonthe network.PleasereconfigureadifferentIPaddress. >
Your computer cannot connect to other computers on the network: If you assign an incorrect subnet mask address to your network adapter, the computer will actually be on another network, so you cannot connect to Other computers on the network.
Your computer cannot connect to other computers using the host name: if you have assigned an incorrect DNS server IP address, or if you are not using a DNS server, you cannot connect to these computers using the host name of another computer. This way you will not be able to browse the Internet. You can connect to them using the IP addresses of other computers.
To work around this issue on your local network, add a mapping of hostnames to IP addresses in the "host" file.
