Windows log files record every detail of the Windows system's operation, which plays a crucial role in the stable operation of Windows. By looking at the Windows logs in the server, administrators can find out why the server is down. Under normal circumstances, the network management is to view the log records locally. Since the current LAN size is relatively large, the network management system cannot stay at the server every day. Once away from the server, it is difficult for the network administrator to know the running status of the server system in time, and the maintenance work will be affected. Now, using the Web access interface function provided by Windows Server 2003 (referred to as Windows 2003) can solve this problem, allowing the network administrator to remotely view the log records of Windows 2003 servers.
Remote logging of Windows 2003 server logs is very simple. In the remote client (Windows 98/2000/XP/2003 system can be used), run IE browser, enter "lds; https://Win2003 server IP address: 8098" in the address bar, such as "https://192.168" .0.1:8098”. In the login dialog box that pops up, enter the administrator's username and password, and click the “OK” button to log in to the web access interface management interface. Then click on the “Maintenance” link in the “Welcome” dialog box, switch to the “Maintenance” page, and then click the “Log” link to go to the log management page. In the log management page, administrators can view, download, or clear Windows 2003 server logs.
On the log management page, you can list all log categories of Windows 2003 servers, such as application logs, security logs, system logs, and web management logs.
Viewing a certain type of log record is very simple. For example, to view the web management log, click the “Web Management Log” link to enter the log view page and select the log file to be viewed in the log file list box. And then click on the "View Logs" button on the right to view the details in the Web Administration Logging.
Clearing a log file is also very simple. After selecting the log file, click the “Clear” button. If you feel that remote viewing of the log is inconvenient and you want to view it on your local machine, you can download the log file to your local hard drive. Select a log file, then click the “download log” button, click the “Save” button in the pop-up "File Download" dialog box and specify the storage path.
Tip: For security reasons, Windows 2003 does not provide a web access interface by default. The network management system must be manually set. Please refer to the article "How to modify the Windows 2003 machine name remotely" in the G11 version of the 33rd issue of 2004.
