Windows 2000 enables and configures offline files

  

An enhancement to the Windows 2000 networking feature that allows users to edit files stored on the network using offline files while disconnected. In order to fully utilize the role of offline files in network applications, users must enable and configure offline files as needed. To enable and configure, follow the steps below:

1. In the Control Panel window, double-click the Folder Options icon to open the Folder Options dialog.

2. Click the Offline Files tab, as shown in Figure 4-27.

3. Verify that the Enable Offline Files check box is enabled; to synchronize offline files, you also need to enable the Synchronize all offline files before logout check box.

4. If the user needs a system prompt when using synchronized offline files, enable the Enable Reminders check box and set the time interval for the prompts in the spinner below. To place a shortcut to an offline file on your desktop, enable the "Place shortcuts for offline files on desktop" checkbox.

5. In the "Disk space for temporary offline files" option area, drag the slider left or right to set a disk space for offline files.
